Jardiance (Empagliflozin): Uses, Dosage, and Side Effects

What is Jardiance?

Jardiance is the brand name for empagliflozin, an oral medication used to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes. It belongs to the drug class known as SGLT2 inhibitors (sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 inhibitors). By reducing glucose reabsorption in the kidneys, Jardiance helps lower blood sugar levels and may also reduce the risk of cardiovascular death in certain patients with heart disease.
A box of Boehringer Ingelheim Jardiance (Empagliflozin) 25 mg film-coated tablets for oral use, containing 100 tablets.
Jardiance (Empagliflozin) 25 mg tablets are used to treat type 2 diabetes and reduce the risk of cardiovascular death in adults with type 2 diabetes and established cardiovascular disease.

Common uses:

  • Type 2 diabetes management (alongside diet and exercise)
  • Reducing the risk of cardiovascular death in adults with type 2 diabetes and established cardiovascular disease
Note: Jardiance is not indicated for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.
